Applications of lithium-ion batteries are widespread, ranging from electric vehicles to energy storage systems. In spite nearly meeting the target in terms density and cost, enhanced safety, lifetime, second-life applications, there remain challenges. As a result difference between characteristics cells, degradation process is accelerated for battery packs containing many cells. The development new generation solutions transportation grid with improved performance goal this paper, which introduces novel concept Smart Battery that brings together advanced power electronics artificial intelligence (AI). key feature bypass device attached each cell can insert relaxation time individual operation minimal effect on load. An AI-based optimizer trained recognize early signs modes decide upon optimal insertion time. resulting pulsed current has been proven extend lifetime by up 80% laboratory aging conditions. unique architecture uses digital twin accelerate training optimizers predict failures. technology currently at proof-of-concept stage.
